Title: Functional Behavior Assessment – Behavior Intervention Planning
Description: A FBA is an approach incorporating a variety of techniques and strategies to identify the causes (or functions) of a problem behavior and to identify likely interventions intended to address/replace the problem behaviors. The FBA looks beyond demonstrated behavior and focuses, instead, upon what the person is getting from it (i.e. task avoidance, attention, access to items/activities, or sensory).
A behavior intervention plan (BIP) takes information gathered in the functional behavior assessment (FBA) about the behaviors targeted for change and utilizes strategies to prevent the problem behaviors from occurring, teach replacement skills of the problem behaviors, provides strategies to strengthen replacement behaviors, and strategies to minimize or eliminate reinforcement for problem behaviors.
