1910 - George Marquet, de origen belga, contagia- do por el entusiasmo del rey Alfonso XIII, compra el solar, antiguo palacio del duque de Medinaceli. Adquirió el terreno por 1.500.000 pesetas.
9 de julio de 1911 - Fue colocada la primera piedra.
21 de septiembre de 1912 - Duerme el primer clien- te en el Palace. En la habitación 141 se registró Leopold Ghende, de origen belga. Pagó 7,50 pesetas.
25 de septiembre de 1912 - Fecha prevista para
la apertura de la cervecería-café, con 55 billares Brunswick, sala de match para profesores, de- gustación de cervezas Löwenbräu, dos orquestas de tziganos de once de la mañana a la una de la madrugada. Fue aplazada por el fallecimiento de S.A.R. la infanta María Teresa.
27 de septiembre de 1912 - El Diario ABC publi- có: «El hotel más confortable del mundo, El Pala- ce Hotel de Madrid es un verdadero monumento, del que se enorgullecerá la capital de España».
12 de octubre de 1912 - Inauguración o cial el Hotel Palace de Madrid, 1.500 invitados, presidi- da por José Canalejas, siendo primer ministro y en uno de sus últimos actos públicos antes de ser asesinado en la Puerta del Sol. Amenizada con la tiple Elvira Hidalgo, sus majestades los reyes no asistieron a este acto brindando posteriormente por su apertura bajo la cúpula del Hotel.

July 9, 1911 - The rst stone was placed.
September 21, 1912 - The rst guest, the Belgian Leopold Ghende, stays at the Palace, in room 141. He paid 7.50 pesetas.
September 25, 1912 - Date set for the opening of the Brasserie, with 55 Brunswick billiard tables, a match room for teachers, a selection of Löwen- bräu beers, two tzigaro orchestras from eleven in the morning to one at night. The opening was postponed due to the untimely death of Royal Princess María Teresa.
September 27, 1912 - The newspaper ABC stated: ‘The most comfortable hotel in the world, the Palace Hotel of Madrid is a true monument, of which the capital of Spain will be proud.’
October 12, 1912 - O cial inauguration of the Palace Hotel of Madrid, 1,500 guests presided over by Prime Minister José Canalejas in one of his last public acts before being assassinated in the Puerta del Sol. Entertained by the soprano Elvira Hidalgo, Their Royal Majesties did not attend this act, although they later toasted the hotel’s opening under the building’s dome.
