THE BORDER BRITISH BLUE CLUB REPORT 2024
It was always going to be difficult to match last year’s record-breaking sale when two
entries broke the 30,000gns barrier, but trade held up well at the Border British Blue
Club’s show and sale at Harrison and Hetherington’s Borderway centre on Friday 10th
and Saturday 11th May 2024.
With the Supreme Champion going on to sell for the top
price of 25,000gns, trade was backed up by a strong
demand from commercial buyers as four of the five
10,000gns plus priced bulls sold to commercial producers.
Almeley impressively saw their 10 bulls cash in to average
£8946.
To top the females was Kevin Watret with Solway View
Stella to the price of 7500gns. Sale total of 49 bulls,
£6777.14; 25 heifers, £4670.40.
Herd Competition 2024 was split into two sections the
large herd which requires 5 or more pedigree calves
registered a year and the small herd, less than 5 pedigree
calves registered a year into the British Blue herd book.
Jim Barber had the tough task of judging, their were a total
of 19 herds that took part. Overall Champion herd was
Stonebyres- Blair & Shona Comrie, Reserve overall
champion herd was Solway View- Kevin Watret. For
induvial class results vist our facebook page "Border Biritsh
Blue Club".
The Border Club would like to thank everyone who helped
make the Herd competition a great success.
Border British Blue Autumn show & sale was a small entry
but still a good show of stock. The judge, noted suckled
calf breeder, Neil Hardisty, chose as his Male and Supreme
Champion, Knockagh Show King, from the Ervine family
of Northern Ireland. He topped the trade at 4,200gns
closely followed by Ross & Elaine Pattinson with Top Side
Sumo selling for 4,000gns.
Reserve champion was an all white female from Blaire &
Shona Comrie, Stonebyres Sabrina 3,000gns.
Borderway Agri Expo the biggest blue calf show in the
country with a staggering 53 entries. Our judge was the
well known Jean Mackay from the Harelaw herd. Male
champion & Reserve Overall champion went to, Clifftown
Up To No Good from D S Townsend. Taking top spot Female
champion and Overall champion was Solway View
Taffy from Kevin Watret, Taffy didnt stop there as she also
went on to win the Interbreed Pedigree Championship.
We also had a good entry for the young handlers class
(under 16 years old) and it was Thomas Goldie that took
the honours, showing great handling skills and knowledge
of his beast.
I would like to take this opportunity of thanking all our
members and a big thankyou to Elaine & Helen and the
comittee for the support at the events throughout the year.
Looking forward to the new year ahead and what is instore
for the "Blues" for 2025.
