SOUTH WEST BRITISH BLUE CLUB REPORT 2022
2022 was certainly one of great loss in the South West, firstly, with the death of Mr Ted Haste of the Stoneleigh herd, one of the early enthusiasts of The British Blue breed, in May 2022, followed by the untimely death of Mr David Ellis (Trencrom) in November 2022.
The members of the SWBBCC would all like to take this opportunity to express their sadness and sincere condolences to both Christine and Andrew and their family and to David’s wife, Gail and their sons, Ben and Matthew.
This year, saw a lot more activities open to members with the relaxation of the Pandemic rules and the year kicked off with NewPole Pierrot achieving top price at the H&H January sale at 10,000gns. The South West saw consistently good returns from both pedigree Blues and Blue sired commercials and trade has been healthy across Society sales and commercial marts in the area.
The show season had a bit of different start to the circuit, with Royal Bath and West starting the ball rolling, followed

by Devon County, Royal Cornwall and Three Counties for the multi day shows and then a welcome return for the many day shows too. Show ring successes were evenly distributed across the various herds with some lovely individuals taking top awards. I think all members will agree that there were some very enjoyable moments and everyone was happy to be back out and having some much needed fun!
2022 saw our biannual Herd Competition take place in September, with Danny and Jane Wyllie touring some seven herds taking part under Danny’s careful scrutiny. Our thanks to them both for taking the time to visit and judge our herds.
