“PROPOSAL PROJECT”
While exact costs of restoration are nearly impossible to figure based on the current information,
the guesses tend to be around $1.6
million, with additional costs involving
marketing, administrative work in the
museum, continued research, etc. As a
non-profit, much of these expensive
and labor have the option of being
solicited through volunteer work, but
such efforts have no guarantee.
Specifically, in the United States, the
importance of marketing and attention
is key to the restoration and financing
of the restoration or running of a site. If
proper attention is received, finances
and support quickly follow.
However, before steps are taken to the actual restoration and costs of the site, gaining the
attention of UNESCO is critical due to the media
attention for the site, as well as financial support of UNESCO itself. Before any of that can take place,
there are costs that would first go into creating an official proposal to be used by the U.S. Department of
the Interior to submit a proposal to UNESCO. Therefore, prior to other efforts, a “Proposal Project” is
necessary to begin work on garnering information about the Freeman Houses to submit information to
the U.S. Department of the Interior, and ultimately, UNESCO.
