GENDER IDENTITIES IN ANDEAN SOCIETY
ABSTRACT
Since the invention of the camera, photographs have served as a way to relay emotional discovery and give
insight into the eye of the photographer. Before images could be transferred to paper or shown to the world,
people were limited in their knowledge of the issues facing the environment. Over the last few decades, the
movement of conservation photography has blossomed. With that movement has come a major concern for
the biodiversity of this planet and with that concern has came the empowerment to take initiative. We will
discuss the history of this type of photography and the effects it plays on our environment.
The Effects of Photography on the Conservation of Biodiversity
When one looks at the images above, they can truly witness the destruction of a beautiful world. It feels as if a
wonderful oasis is transformed into an inferno for the damned. Humans tend to live in the “out of sight, out of
mind” mentality, but when coming face to face with reality, the urge to take initiative is evoked. When faced
with these images, people are more prone to change. Therefore, it is important to understand just how
photography effects the conservation of the biodiversity on this planet that we call home.
