My favourite food is a roast dinner, especially beef. The meat tasted better when I was younger.
Younger people don’t have the same cookery skills and they are working far too many hours.
My Mum
was a very good cook. She cooked simple food like meat, vegetables and potatoes as she said it was cheaper. My uncle had a butcher’s shop so we were lucky enough to have our meat cheaper than everybody else. It also meant that we could have better cuts.
I think food is really important and when I was growing up we always had regular mealtimes with everybody eating together
at the table. We had a really special atmosphere. We loved to talk and we learned how to respect each other. It was our special time together and I carried on the tradition with my own family.
I couldn’t ask for a better chef; he produces a pasta dish for me each day as I love Italian food. Reminds me of my trips there on holiday.
I’m a traditional Welsh girl at heart, I get that from my mum, and I like traditional food. I don’t like spicy food. My grandfather was a miner and my grandmother stayed home to look after her ten children, so she had to learn to cook with simple ingredients that went a long way. My favourite was her blackcurrant tarts. She would send me out to collect the blackberries from the garden, while she made the pastry and custard. I can still remember how good they tasted, and it makes my mouth water even now.
Redbridge Community Lunch Club ‘Link up for Lunch’
I look forward to coming to the Lunch Club each Friday; meeting and chatting to friends and I especially look forward to the lovely, wholesome cooked meal and the lovely service we get.
Thank you. Brenda
I would just like to say thank you for each Friday we meet, for the service and lovely meals and company. It’s a blessing. Daphne
I love going to our Friday Lunch Club, I meet my friends as well as having a lovely two-course meal. The ladies who serve our meal are lovely, we also have a ra e which we love. Carol
It’s so lovely for me to go to the Lunch Club as I’m very elderly and on my own. The food is lovely and one of the other ladies picks me up. We have a laugh and a good old natter; it makes me happy and gives me something to think about. Vera
I’m a very fussy eater but I always get a meal I enjoy, and the company of friends is lovely. Betty
I love the variety of meals we get at the Luncheon Club. We always get service with a smile, it’s a very friendly atmosphere. It gets me out of the house to meet my friends.
I’m very happy to enjoy a lovely meal with all the people. The service is very good, we have good banter together. We all thank everyone that has organised this Lunch Club. Jean
