Exercise

The preliminary thickness design of flexible pavement structure for highway project is shown in
the figure below. The 30 cm layer will be constructed on top of sub-grade in rainy season.
Owing to this situation, the contractor of this project has give the suggestion to mix the 30 cm
layer with the laterite soil and then stabilized by using cement. The stabilization will avoid a
damage that is caused by heavy rain as well as increasing a value of CBR soil from 8% to
60%. Thereby, the contractor has a given a suggestion in order that the thickness of the
pavement will be modified. Determine a new thickness design of flexible pavement structure
for this project based on the suggestion by assuming that the stabilization layer will be
functioned as sub-base layer.
