Beyond the Basic-Our Golden Rules
RESPONSIBILITY FOCUS INTEGRITY
SELF-IMPROVEMENT
Over the course of his career, Hampton has racked up more
than 25 years in sales, but OmniSite’s Coaching Over Co ee came as a rst for him. He nds
the process reassuring, because “Unlike the standard once-a-year reviews, this let’s you know where you stand at the start and at all times throughout the year.” As a manager, he feels more aware of his team’s accomplishments now.
“Some of the best things that come from frequent talks are timely and steady compliments,” Hampton says. “You don’t miss the chance to give those ‘Atta boys’ when someone completes a project or does a particularly good job on something.”
According to Hampton, examples might include: Have you helped someone on your team? Are you a good teammate? Do you pitch in and take out the trash and clean out your food in the o ce fridge?
Some of these points might sound insigni cant, but as Hampton explains, if people don’t clean up after themselves, that fobs the task o onto other coworkers to do it, which isn’t nice (or productive). If employees do unto others as
they hope they’ll do unto them, the mindfulness boxes are checked and everyone’s happy.
Other expectations include self-improvement measures, such as attending paid outside training

mindfulness and wellness—a lot like sessions and industry trade shows, the Golden Rules, really.” as well as partaking in sta retreats.

include everything from gol ng and go-karting to cheering on the Indianapolis Indians.
Originally Coaching Over Co ee involved monthly meet-ups, but
most everyone decided the frequency seemed...well, too frequent.
“Really, the whole point is to e ectively communicate with your sta on a regular basis, and mentor as you go along, not waiting until problems
or ine ciencies escalate over time,” Hampton says. “After a couple of cycles, we’ve decided that there just aren’t that many changes to address on a monthly basis. So we’ve shifted them to quarterly gatherings now.”
