It’s not unusual for companies of OmniSite’s size to o er retirement bene ts to employees. But it’s a safe wager that few businesses present 401K investment options with the same devotion as ours.
From Day One, when employees walk through the building, they can’t miss the 8-foot-tall reminders of “The Crisis in Pensions and Retirement Plans” and “Our Hopes VS Our Reality” nancial facts on
the hallway walls outside the rst- oor restrooms. These graphics loom large for a reason: Savings and retirement planning is a big deal for Tom Ward, and he wants it to be important to his employees.
“Think about why you are at work. Really. You’re here for a paycheck,” Ward says. “The reason you work is for money, but we hardly ever talk about the day when you
step out of here to retire. Are you going to be able to take care
of yourself when you do?
It’s crazy, just nonsense that employers often don’t talk
about this.”
Growing up with humble
beginnings, Ward never received
nancial advice from his family.
The idea of earning a living while
investing in a nancially sound
future was a foreign concept –
actually an unheard-of topic.
His family couldn’t o er him
nancial advice, but as an adult
taught his kids, from a very young age, about money and what it is.
“It’s a tool. If you can use that tool e ectively, it can make your life so much better,” Ward says he explained to them. “And if you can’t use it, your life is bound to be harder.”
