REGION NOTES: Buena looks to post a fourth consecutive break-even or better season as coach Joe Thomas enters his sixth season at the helm. The Colts
were 8-3 last year making the playoffs for the first time since 2012. Top rusher Tory Walters and top receiver Keyon Taylor are key returning players. ... Cholla managed to add an extra win last year and finished 2-8. The Chargers have a new head coach in Virgil Henderson and will mix it up with two new region opponents - playoff teams Buena and Salpointe - so the schedule isn’t light. ... Desert View made strides last year notching six wins, doubling 2017 and 2018 win totals. A pair of 1,000-yard rushers last season, juniors Carlos Alvarez and Serge Gbowei- ah, accounted for 2,482 yards and 27 TDs as marquee players to watch. ... Flow- ing Wells has been the proverbial yo-yo of late in terms of wins and losses. The Caballeros finished 2-8 last year in Scott Cortese’s first year, were 8-3 and made the playoffs in 2018, were 3-7 in 2017 and 6-5 and playoff-bound in 2016.
