Cardinal Bentivoglio by Antoine Van Dyck
The artist, Van Dyck, was in Rome when he painted this portrait
of Cardinal Bentivoglio, around 1623. Many famous people wan-
ted their portraits by Van Dyck! This painting represents the time
Bentivoglio became a cardinal: that’s why red dominates the
scene. He is sitting on a beautiful wooden chair, holding the let-
ter from Rome that says he has become a cardinal.
