While in these crazy times right now we all know this probably be our “new reality” for a while. Social distancing, face masks along with no hugs (the painful part for people like me) could continue for a while. The important thing is that we are all safe, be good at civil servants and obey the guidelines we are given and we will get through this.
One particular challenge, during this crisis, is that our High School students are missing out of all the pomp and circumstance that goes along with their senior year. Because of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) and social distancing there will be no prom, no senior cut day (what’s the fun if you can’t hang out with friends) but most of all no graduation ceremony. But we would ask for your support to help them in their “rite of passage” anyway.
And So It Seems By Bob Santucci
I was asked to write about my community recently. With the shelter in place order in effect I have been at home so I don’t have a lot of community updates. This is probably a great time to reintroduce myself to this community.
Below is information about a special project to celebrate them.
I have lived in Healdsburg for most of my life. My careers have provided me the opportunity to become familiar with most Sonoma County towns. My primary career was being a Chef in the era prior to celebrity chef. I have been in sales the past 20 years and am currently Owner/Agent of a “Cloud Based” real estate brokerage. I am a member of the Healdsburg Kiwanis Club and serve on that board of directors. I am also on the City of Healdsburg’s Senior Citizens Advisory commission. My journey towards working with seniors began 15 years ago. It seems to be a big theme in my life these days.
Will you please be part of making this happen? If you are interested in how be part of this please contact me at lorene@mac.com and I will put you in touch with the right people. These seniors are out future leaders and business people, let’s not forget them.
This past year I have lived with my father Arnold Santucci, a former columnist for this publication. Dad is 100 years old and going strong. My Mom was 100 years old when she passed in December 2018. Raising twin children was an amazing experience. Raising 100 year olds is beyond belief. For example. I was living with Dad about a month. I had this down. What could go wrong? Then our doctor asks me, “What are you doing about Dads toenails.” Holy crap! How could I miss that? I have toenails. I don’t seem to screw that up too much. It turns out that Medicare provides all of these services.
When you consider the date of “2020,” it will be forever linked to the global pandemic. The term “2020,” during pre-pandemic times holds a different connotation, having “2020 vision or hindsight.” The senior class of 2020 needs the support of their community.
So, a “2020 vision” is being crafted by staff members from three schools:
Now you know a bit about me. What’s your story? Are you feeling perfectly balanced and totally in sync with the universe? Send comments to: mailto:HBG_Gazette@sonic.net
North Bay Met Academy, Windsor Oaks Academy, Windsor High School and community members from Windsor’s Parks and Recreation and
the Chamber of Commerce. We have collaborated to create a 2020 visual celebration, to honor our seniors. Every senior deserves to be recognized and celebrated not only for their years of hard work and determination but also the grit and resilience they have demonstrated, throughout their high school years: 2020 COVID-19 Virus, the 2019 Kincade Fire and the 2017 Tubbs Fire. When we reflect on the high school experience, and the various rites of passage, pandemics and natural disasters are not part of the equation.
The class of 2020 has endured much, so in an effort to honor and celebrate each and every senior, we are crafting a “visual celebration,” composed of banners and signs for the Class of 2020! The banners will have each of the seniors’ names emblazoned on them and be representative of
each of our high school programs. Our “celebrate the Class of 2020” banners will be displayed throughout Windsor’s Town Green, in May. We admire, congratulate, celebrate and wish each senior the very brightest future possible.
In closing, I have super exciting news! Windsor Certified Farmers Market opens on Sunday, May 3rd, 10-1 pm. Local produce, preserved foods and meals to go from local farmers and food producers on the Windsor Town Green. Expect Social Distancing protocol, masks required for all attendees. Things you will find fresh fruits and veggies, eggs, baked goods, honey, jams and vinegars, meat pies, bagel dogs, tamales, Market Fresh meals-to-go and BBQ meals-to-go.
We will get through this, please stay safe, be positive. Please continue to follow and adhere to all current and required health and social distancing guidelines in our community. I hope to write next month about things that are going on in Windsor for June.
Here is what has fascinated me for the past twenty years.
I don’t know about the rest of you but the world feels like everything
is changing quickly. I read about the world turmoil, housing and politics and I need good news. I have great news and a solution to all the turmoil, knowledge is power.
If you removed all political news, all of the housing crisis news, all of the healthcare news I wonder how we would feel? I think we would feel just as unsteady and here is why. We are on the tail end of the Industrial Age and are now in the INFORMATION AGE.
If you subscribe to my hypothesis regarding everything changing and there is uneasiness from it then here is what to do. I have found that helping others, getting away from media, exercising and embracing change helps me.
Realize that the way we communicate, bank, shop and essentially everything is changing and with that comes fear. Old school says to leverage fear and that is what is happening.
I will leave you with this.
Our World War II veterans and the greatest generation is fading. That combined with the other changes makes this the scariest time we have ever lived in. Knowing that and that the only thing we have to fear... should arm you to be stronger, work harder, love more and help others.
NOTE: I believe that the entire world’s economies and trade is changing and that the general feeling of uneasiness is behind all of it. Last time this happened we were entering the Industrial Age and that worked out pretty good. ~ Bob Santucci
There, I feel better now.
