Welcome to May which is an important month to me. On May 1st I will celebrate 29 years of continuous sobriety. On May 10th is Mother’s Day. I am very blessed to have an amazing friendship with my mom.
I asked Denise what she has been watching during this lockdown. She loved “The Highwayman” starring Kevin Costner and Woody Harrelson. She says every shot is a piece of art. She also likes the series “Letterkenny”. It’s silly and worth the time to watch. She is a joy to talk to. The next time she stars in something at Spreckels run don’t walk to see it!
I also want to introduce you to Dr. Mayra Perez, our new CRPUSD superintendent. The Cotati-Rohnert Park Unified School District held their regular school board meeting March 31st in the Mountain Shadows Educational Center. With chairs spaced six feet apart, only 10 people could attend in person. Others watched at home on the You Tube live stream. Dr. Perez starts July 1st. She will take over from Superintendent Watenpaugh. Congratulations Dr. Perez.
For those of you experiencing this situation alone, consider adopting a pet from the Rohnert Park Animal Shelter. To see animals up for adoption, visit www.rpanimalshelter.org - or - Call 707 584 1582 for an appointment.
This will be a very different Mother’s Day for everyone. Some of you have a fractured relationship with your mother. Now would be a good time to repair that fracture. You only have ONE Mom. Take the initiative. You never know, this might be the year to mend that break.
I can’t wait for Spreckels to open. So much talent have performed there. One of my favorite performers who has appeared many times at Spreckels is Denise Elia -Yen. She most recently starred in “Urinetown”, also starring her husband, David L. Yen. One of my favorite performances she gave was as Elizabeth in “Young Frankenstein” back in 2013. Another was as Susy in “Wait Until Dark” which was directed by her husband. She also appeared in “Legally Blonde” as Paulette. She is also an amazing director.
She was directing “Legally Blonde” at Maria Carillo High School but the show was cancelled a week before opening because of the situation we are currently in. She hopes to round up the cast during the holidays so they can experience performing in front of an audience.
