        The Kid Who Played the Palace. Act One. The year: 1982. The place: New York City.


        ACT I / Scene I


                                                             N
        Curtain up on exterior of a small turn-of-the-century townhouse on West Forty-Second Street, a few
        blocks from Times Square. Four children enter. [ALYON LUCCI, 16; STEPHANIE ST. CLAIR, 12-13;
        ADAM ST. CLAIR, approximately 16-17; and CHRISTINE HOLLIWELL, age 8] They approach the front
        door, try to open it, Adam pulls, pushes, and bangs on the door persistently. Alyson‘s face is buried in
        an issue of a trade paper.


                                                          ALYSON
        What kind of job is this?


                                                           ADAM
        (Pulling at the door) C‘mon, will ya. open up!


                                                          ALYSON
        Steph, control your brother. What kind of job is this?


                                                           ADAM
        Stupid thing‘s a hundred years old.


                                                           CHRIS
        Unh-unh. My mom said it was built in the 1890's. This is 1982. So the oldest it could possibly be is-


                                                           ADAM
        Shut up, Chris.


                                                        STEPHANIE
        (―Remind me‖ to Stephanie) Why do we babysit her?
