Serving the legal profession since 1974
The College of Law was founded in 1974 by The Law Society of New South Wales
to provide practical legal training to bridge the gap between an academic law
degree and legal practice for NSW solicitors.
Today, the College provides postgraduate legal education and training across
eight jurisdictions in Australia and New Zealand.
From September 2017, there will be two new jurisdictional streams in the
College’s LLM (Applied Law) programme: Malaysian legal practice and ASEAN-
focussed cross-border legal practice.
The College of Law Limited is a company limited by the guarantee of its 31
Members and is a not-for-profit company regulated by the Australian Charities
and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC). It receives no funding from government.
In place of shareholders, the College has 31 Members who are drawn from the
College’s key stakeholder groups across Australia and New Zealand. Stakeholders
include alumni and legal professional communities in both countries.
The College’s governance is vested in a Board of Governors that is appointed by
the Members.
