From the above graph, the Library learned that even though the institution is ODeL based, the top three most highly used services during the extended working hours of the Library were (in descending order) the study areas, Internet access and enquiries. Services which were not popularly used during these hours were therefore “cut out”, for example, training scheduled during the extended working hours.
Open-Ended Responses
To foster more communication with Unisa Library clients, open-ended questions are also asked in the surveys. Open-ended questions require a response with more depth and are, thus, rich in the detail of the client’s experience. Some of those responses are displayed below:
“the system of borrowing and returning books is quite e cient... thumbs up!”
“Good day. I think there is a need for study hall/seminar dedicated for discussions as a groups. Some of students are murmuring during study sessions to an extent that i believe study hall will be convenient for them. The number of students who enter study hall/seminar must be controlled as some come and wait in passages making noise and through cell phones. The library need to have food counter where students will leave their foods and get them at there eating time because they are eating apples, bananas, biscuits and bread in the halls and is wrong. The similar way computer laboratories are managed is needed in the study area. I believe the above mentioned is the standard of library’s conduct and will be honoured if you hire myself to supervise the mentioned challenges or at least allocate myself a special study o ce. Yours faithfully.”
“The only problem is that the library closes in weekends so we working students cannot assess it”
“I think the training course was a great success simply cause I got to learn more about the library and also how to go about in terms of they books and stu , where to go online when searching for books using the codes or typing down the name of the author or the title of the book. In a nutshell the training was very good”.
“As the rst time user I was impressed with the way sta assisted me”.
