About the Writer
Charles Dickens (1812–1870) was an English author. He created a
few of the world’s most famous fictional characters. He is regarded
as the greatest novelist of the Victorian era. His 1859 novel, A Tale of
Two Cities, is his best-known work of historical fiction. His other popular
novels are Oliver Twist, Great Expectations and A Christmas Carol.
A boy named David Copperfield was very sad when his mother died. His stepfather
sent him to work at an unsuitable place. David decided to run away to his father’s
aunt. She was so disappointed that he had not been born a girl that she never
visited him after his birth. Read on to know what happened next!
