24 BOWLINE ON THE BIGHT
This is a good way of providing a loop in the middle of a line or for making an
emergency bosun’s chair. It’s not comfortable to sit in but it does work.
To form a Bowline on the Bight take a bight of the line, apply it to the standing
part and twist in the normal manner resulting in its sticking up through a turn of
the standing part. The protruding ‘ear’ is pulled through, spread out and dropped
over the two part main loop. It is brought up above the turn of the standing part
and settled down. It then looks just like a doubled Bowline but without the usual
end inside the main loop.
