                                                        SPECIAL-PURPOSE KNOTS

                                      Palomar Hook Knot
Because the Palomar Hook Knot is strong and secure, many recreational
and professional fishermen make it their favorite hook tie.

1 Fold the end of the line over and pull the bight through the eye of
                          hook or lure.

2 Use the bight to tie an Overhand Knot.

3 Pass the hook or swivel through the bight of the running end. Take
out slack with both ends together, and finish tightening with the
                          standing part.

Note that in order to tie the Palomar, the eye should be large
enough to pass a bight through it.

                                                                                    213
