NICOLE
As a young teenager, Nicole Kennedy was painfully shy. She suffered from anxiety in social situations which stopped her from doing a lot of the things that she wanted to do.
In sixth grade, Nicole found the YMCA’s Youth in Government (YIG), a mock-legislative program that helps teens develop confidence, practice leadership and learn
civic responsibility. Thanks to
a scholarship through the Y’s financial assistance program, Nicole was able to join Youth In Government. She quickly started
to gain confidence in herself and began to grow as a person and student. Nicole is no longer the timid teenager afraid to speak
in public. She now enjoys leading delegations of her peers and discussing policies that could one day shape Delaware’s future.

share my ideas. Because of Youth in Government, I” found my voice.
