“Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to you on the subject of the proposed Memorial to His Late Majesty King George V.
At a public meeting held soon after my return from leave, it was unanimously decided that the Cayman Islanders would like to erect some sort of Memorial to His Late Majesty as a token of their loyalty and affection to his memory.
The suggestion took the concrete form of a Clock Tower to be erected in Georgetown. For a very long time the absence of a public time-piece has been felt by everyone, and although the provision of a playing field, more in keeping with His Late Majesty’s desires, was considered, this latter suggestion is however impracticable.
It was further decided to open a public subscription and on this point I am now addressing you. Subscriptions have been promised as follows:-
J.S. Webster, Esq £
C.B. Pickthall, Esq A.W.Cardinall, Esq W.S.Conolly, Esq., Kingston
I am,
Your obedient servant, A.W. Cardinall, Commissioner”
