In most Japanese houses, おふろ and トイレ are separate rooms. おふろ is where you take a shower and a bath. There is a difference in the way Japanese and Western people take
baths. In Japanese homes, all soaping, scrubbing and rinsing of the body is done outside the tub in a tiled area with a faucet and/or a shower head. After you thoroughly clean your body, you may submerge in the hot water of a deep tub to relax. You do not drain the water of the tub after you are finished. It is like an outdoor spa in the West and is shared by the whole family.
