は is the topic marker. です attaches to a noun phrase to form a sentence. The topic is optional.

‘Is your name Mr. Tanaka?’ ‘Yes, I’m Tanaka.’
‘Is this one Toyota?’
‘Yes, it’s Toyota.’
なに “what,” when combines with です, becomes なん as in これは、なんですか “what is this?” To answer such questions, just replace wh-nouns with appropriate items and delete sentence-final か. The part before the wh-noun is optional.
1. 「これは、なんですか。」 ‘What is this?’ 2. 「(これは、)とよたです。」 ‘This is Toyota.’
