PRIMARY LEARNING FOCUS
Collaborative work is an important aspect of 21st century learning. This gives students the opportunity to explore each other’s perspective. During virtual learning, this may be challenging, but with the breakout room options in Zoom, students are able to take part in virtual collaborative tasks. Using this feature, they can work with their zoommates in groups of 2-4 to solve puzzles, discuss research and play games. Here are some examples:
Language game:
Breakout groups were given four words to describe an object. They discussed the words in their groups and then presented what object they thought the words described. For example: air, blades, wind and ceiling. The answer is a ceiling fan. Students then created their own riddle for their zoommates to solve.
Solve puzzles:
After solving the math puzzle, they went into their break out rooms to share the solution and strategies they had used to answer the puzzle. This helped them look at the different ways of solving a puzzle.
Language Pictionary:
Students in their breakout groups had to come up with two sentences that had nouns, adjectives, verbs, and adverbs. Later, they drew a picture for each sentence and their zoommates had to guess the sentence and correctly identify the parts of speech.
