I was lucky enough to be selected for the Development
Team and was pleased with this opportunity. I
underestimated Netball and how fit you must be to play
it, as I used muscles during this week that I didn’t even
think I had; everything ached. I also underestimated
how hard it was to stop your feet and catch a ball at the
same time as on the first day of training there seemed
to be no hope for me.
Unexpected Award
Unexpectedly, I was delighted at being awarded the
Army Inter Corps Young Player of the Tournament 2018,
a great accolade and honour, especially given that
there were over 20 teams entered the competition.
I could not have done this without the coaching,
mentoring and guidance from the whole of our Netball
team and was very pleased and humbled to receive
this award which I will cherish as a reminder of my
achievements over the week.
Endnote
The development team fought hard in every match and
by the end of the Championships we were a close and
bonded team. Personally, I really feel like I have found
my new sporting ‘Family’ because that’s what the Corps
Netball team is. It’s a family where everyone looks after
each other regardless of experience or background.
For me I am now a Netball player and a big fan of the
sport, so much so that I cannot wait to get involved
again next year and am off now to find a civilian team
in my local area to continue of my netball journey.
