FOLLOW THE LEADER
So here we are, at the end of our school life.
The last 14 years in this school has been a memorable journey of unwavering love and great friendships. GEMS Our Own is as precious as home to me. I have always wanted to leave my mark in this school, and now my name is etched into the history of GEMS Our Own. Being appointed as the first Head Girl from
the Humanities stream, I wear this little golden badge with a huge sense of accomplishment and an enormous sense of responsibility.
In GEMS Our Own, we are taught how to think, not what to think. We are taught to lead through innovation and grow by learning so that we pursue excellence and be global citizens. I thank the Almighty, for giving me the opportunity
to learn and to grow and take my school to greater heights. I would like to thank my family for teaching me that everything is possible if you
believe in it first. We all know how an ideal leader should be, but to be one yourself and keep up those responsibilities is what the Senior Leadership Team has taught me. My heartfelt gratitude
to our Executive Principal Mr.T homas Mathew, Headmistresses, Ms. Asha Chandran and Ms.Susan Varghese, Heads of Sections and Supervisors for recognizing my talents even before I knew them. To my teachers, you have brought me up to be the person I am today - My heartfelt gratitude for your unwavering support. The constant support extended by the ancillary staff has made this school life a safe and secured one. I am obliged to all who have helped me carve my path.
To all members of the prefectural body, thank you for walking alongside me to achieve the vision of this great institution. Always remember, "It is our choices, that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities.”
Keerthana Rajeevan Unni - Head Girl
“The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others”.
Gandhiji was just like every other man who
was a victim of the British rule, but what
made him differ from the rest was his vision of independence and freedom. Although it was a pain-staking struggle, he focused on the solution and earned a special place in the people’s hearts. He was their hero. One does not necessarily have to be a genius to solve people’s problems, but that spark of hopefulness and ability to connect with people are the traits of a true leader.
My school has honored me with the post of
President, School council. My experiences have
taught me that it is important to be a leader
‘among’ the people and not a leader ‘of’ the
people. The role of leadership involves showing sheer enthusiasm in any task taken up, recognizing ideas with potential, and guiding them through the right direction. I have realized that being a leader is more than just attaining opportunities to lead. It teaches us the art of ‘learning' and ‘listening’.
GEMS Our Own English High School, Dubai, with its inspiring, harmonious and inclusive environment has a competent body of young leaders - a vibrant community, which seeks development and aspires for progress. Over 10,000 students studying in this school implies 10,000 different perspectives and vision. That is how I picture it. It is not easy to recognize every talent, but it is fundamental to provide a platform where we students are moulded to be confident, to express our talents and enhance our strengths. That is a significant step to succeeding in your mission.
In turn, we are able to build a team of future leaders, who aspire to bring a change to the world! Chanel D’Sa - President, School Council
