omeone once remarked that there are
S‘Lies, damned lies, and statistics’. The sta-
tistics show that before this game; second in
the table, Farnham Town had scored 46 goals
this season, fewer goals than Westside on 49
goals, who are 15th in the table and have five
games in hand. Farnham are set to win pro-
motion simply because they don’t give many
goals away, 25 so far this season, only Jersey
Bulls have conceded fewer.
So statistically this game wasn’t going to be
high scoring, and the statistics didn’t lie,
Farnham’s top goalscorer Charlie Oakley’s
second-half goal; a lob over the goalkeeper
from 20 yards out, grabbed the points.
Good defending from United in the first
half denied Farnham any clear goalscoring
opportunities. Julien Saka making his de-
but in the first team looked impressive and
Cameron Black had another excellent game,
cutting out those high balls, and at one point
he seemed to run across the halfway line
with the ball spinning on his head! Perhaps penalty for handball provided Farnham with
something he’d learnt from the seal enclosure an opportunity to finish off the game, but
across the road at Chessington World of Ad- goalkeeper Alfee Burridge guessed well to
ventures! make an excellent save.
The second half was again devoid of many Farnham may have rued their missed penalty
chances, but with Farnham having the lion’s with 7 minutes of added time to play, but a
share of the possession, and always looking somewhat dreary game finished with a win
the more likely to score, the aforementioned for the home side. Farnham look certain to
lob over the keeper broke the deadlock. A win promotion, but they didn’t shine today.
