There's no two ways about it. Even the best burgers in the football league can't cov-
er up what's happening on the pitch at RPV. A few drubbings are starting to look
like a habit. A habit that we're going to have to kick.
Last Saturday was a great day to be at RPV for a lot of reasons. For a start the
weather was horrible and we all know that, here at Grand Drive, we do like a bit of
a downpour and seeing a few gulls strutting about the 18 yard box is always guar-
anteed to raise a smile. Secondly the Badshot Lea fans were
a real pleasure to meet. For a start there were lots
of them! They were also a good laugh and had the
decency to scratch their heads over the phantom penalty
that the ref awarded them. We also saw a great number of
new fans coming to see what was going on at Raynes Park
Vale. A good crew who admitted that they had lived around
SW20 for years but hadn't known about RPV - it was
great to see!! It was a shame that came on the day that we
suffered one of our heaviest defeats.
Chatting to long-time fans Sid and Doris Bonkers (aka -
some regular fans) there was a frustration that we weren't
matching up to the oppos. Don't get me wrong, Badshot
were good. When they had the ball they knew what they were going to do with it.
Passing, set-pieces, distribution - all well executed. But they also had a bit of guile.
Look, we all moan about players going down to win a pen, but we would all take
that if it brings the win. Even Peter Crouch has said that, if he thought refs would
give the pen for a foul if the player stayed on his feet then he wouldn't go down.
Here on the touchline Vale fans were looking for players to get in the box and start
worrying oppo defences. No player goes looking for the pen but get into the area
and goals and errors happen. It would just be good if they happened our way...
Come on you Vale!!!!
