Showin’Up &
Showin’ Off
That’s the theme for this year’s Harper
County Fair. What are you planning to
show off?
The fair is the culmination of a year’s
worth of work for the youth of the
Harper County 4-H and the Chaparral
FFA programs. They get too display the
projects they have worked hard on and
try to win that Grand Champion ribbon.
Fair time is not just for youth though.
Originally the fair was when the farmers
brought their best products from the
year’s harvest in to compare with their
neighbors. The open class departments
allow the young and young at heart to
display the items they have worked on
all year as well.
I know some of you may not bake or knit
or sew but you probably grow crops or
even a garden. Have you thought about
bringing samples of sorghum or soybean
plants or a flake of hay that you put up
this year?
You might think this is silly but many of
you are competitive so don’t let your
neighbor run off with that blue ribbon
without some competition! The more
exhibits we have at the fair the more
there is for visitors and you to see.
The fair book will be out shortly and is
available online at harper.ksu.edu if you
are anxious to see the potential classes.
Hope to see your exhibit at the Harper
County Fair August 7-10, 2019
