The unique experiences of being underwater ‘in-person’ still thrills me today after 53 years of diving. Just
this month I saw a small creature that I had never seen before and even more astounding is that even with a graduate degree in marine biology, I still don’t know what group of animals it belongs in. TIPS FOR NON-DIvERS
You can do a half-day introduction to scuba course at most dive operations
in Cayman. You will start in a swimming pool to practice breathing with a regulator and wearing a scuba mask. There you will learn how to use your buoyancy compensator that lets you add and exhaust air to help you stay neutral so you can float just right. Then you will experience a shallow but real ocean dive with your same instructor and feel in person the amazement that divers are raving about!
If you wish you could dive, but you have anxieties about doing that, don’t
do a group scuba class. You must learn at your own pace, and not be rushed. Read Cathy Church’s article (http://www. cathychurch.com/index.php/uwstore-4/ helping-fearful-divers). It describes steps that you adjust to fit the intensity of your particular obstacles toward becoming
a successful snorkeler or even a scuba diver. She has helped a lot of people who were not water people eventually love being underwater!
