 At the end of my time at school I didn’t really know what I wanted to do, so I worked for the Ministry of Works (MOW) in their civil engineering department for seven years. I started in surveying and ended up in contract management.
It was an interesting time in the MOW, as there was no pressure to perform. I remember getting right up to the top of my pay scale and then being told I couldn’t have the pay increase they said I was to have, as I was already at the top. There was a lot of wasted time and money in that department, but one good thing about government departments back in those days was that they were awesome training facilities for various industries.
So, there I was at the ripe old age of 23, when I found I couldn’t work for the government (well anyone) anymore. I was frustrated, with no career prospects that would satisfy my money-making ambitions and enable me to make my own decisions. I saw no future for me in the career I had
