  Then there were the ones who didn’t understand hard work, and I could set my watch to their daily arrival and departure. They would not give one extra ounce of time for the company, and these were the ones that never progressed much past where their job sat.
Even today I get people who had worked for me many years earlier say, ‘Paul, I didn’t appreciate it at the time, but I learnt so much from you that I didn’t realise until now.’ To me, that is part of employing and treating everyone the same and exposing everyone in the business on how to be a business person. I loved developing people like Rick, who we took from working at a service station at eighteen to running our CRM rollout and being involved in financial control. That is one of the joys of business – passing on your knowledge and learnings to others.
