  Rather than going by the method of ‘Hey, sit down and watch what I do,’ there should be a structured way of training. I always had an induction training schedule that new staff had to go through. I would pull out the systems and the operations manuals and make sure that the person went through those systems – not just once, but that they carried on revisiting them.
I’ve always been shocked at some bigger companies not having systems written down. All those errors that happen could quite often be put down to not having a system, or not following the system and training via ‘Sitting next to Nellie’.
