a great example of ‘it’s in the words’ (and Curse of Assumption), and I learnt a great deal from that discussion with Erin.
Another powerful example of ‘it’s in the words’, is in a YouTube clip I once saw of a street beggar holding up a cardboard sign saying: ‘I am blind. Please help.’[1] The guy wasn’t doing well and little money was dropping into his hat on the pavement. A woman comes along and picks up the carboard sign, turns it around and writes on its other side, ‘I hear it’s a nice sunny day out there and I cannot see it.’ The next minute you can see people stopping and hear the sound of money dropping into his hat.
‘It’s all in the words.’
Paulism: It’s the words and how you phase the sentence that determines the response and the success of the communication.
