TE OMANGA HOSPICE NEWSLETTER
HEART CLOTH / CLOTH OF GOLD
Our Supportive Therapy Nurses provide ‘heart cloths’ as a comforting tool for our patients and their whānau. With scented cream placed onto a small cloth; and placed close to the heart, ‘heart cloths’ provide a gentle and supportive means of offering comfort and care during stressful times.
We use Weleda Aurum Lavender Ointment on the cloths, a homeopathic remedy combining essential oils of lavender and rose oil, but any other suitable cream can be used. The healing powers of this cream can help ease worry and anxiety during stressful times, supports peaceful sleep, and supports resilience around times of change and transition.
The intense fragrance of the natural essential lavender oil and fine rose blossom extract, helps with relaxation and ensures more serenity.
This product can be popular and may be out of stock. To purchase visit your local organic health shop, or search online for available stockists such as Weleda, Naturally Healthy NZ, APEX Health NZ.
How to make a heart cloth at home:
• Take a washed soft piece of flannelette sheeting (35cm x 20cm approx.)
• Place a small amount of cream on the cloth, fold in half and keep in a sealed bag.
• When ready to use, warm the folded cloth between your hands, under your arm or under a covered hot water bottle.
• When warm, open and place directly onto the skin on the left side of the chest in the heart region.
• A singlet can hold the cloth in place while the person rests or sleeps.
• The cloth can be stored in a plastic bag for repeated applications.
• Keep out of reach of children.
• For external use only.
If you are unable to find this ointment, Weleda has also developed another product with
similar properties.
