VOLUNTEERS MAKE A DIFFERENCE
"Volunteers are the only human beings on the face of the
earth who reflect this nation’s compassion, unselfish caring patience, and just plain loving one another."
ERMA BOMBECK
Our Volunteers are at the heart of everything we do at Te Omanga. They are an integral part of the valuable service we provide to all our patients
and families and are our bridge into our local community. A team of over 476 volunteers ensures Te Omanga can continue to provide a quality, free of charge service.
Our amazing group of volunteers – who do everything from gardening, to manning reception at our Woburn hospice, to taking great care of the gifts donated to us for sale at our retail stores, to creating beautiful hand-crafted gifts to raise funds for our patients – are the heart and soul of Te Omanga.
In December, we gathered in safe numbers to thank some of these local legends with refreshments and awards for their years, or decades, of service to
our patients and the people of the Hutt Valley. We recognised those receiving awards for 2-years, 5-years, 10-years, 20-years, 30-years, and a remarkable 40-years of service. As a community we are very fortunate to have people like Pat O’Grady, a Flower Lady who was thanked for her 40 years’ bringing the perfume and beauty of her floral arrangements into the Hospice for all to enjoy.
