CHAIRPERSON’S REPORT
TE OMANGA HOSPICE TRUST
This past year has been another challenging one for us all.
While Te Omanga continued its agile response to COVID 19
restrictions, the ongoing presence of the virus impacted across
our organisation. We struggled to recruit nursing staff, while at the
same time responding to an increase in referrals for community care. Relationships with primary and aged care were disrupted, the number of beds in the In-Patient Unit reduced and visiting restricted. Many of our volunteers had to be stood down, our shops closed and fundraising events cancelled.
Through these challenges our staff and volunteers remained committed and positive, focussed on ensuring that our patients’ care was not compromised. Everyone went above and beyond to make sure the essence of Te Omanga and its service was retained. The support from you, our community, over this time was unwavering – Thank you .... Without you we would not succeed.
My thanks to Biddy Harford and her team for their commitment, leadership and hard work through another tough year, and my fellow Trustees for their continued contribution and guidance.
The coming year brings different challenges as we work to develop relationships with the new health agencies Te Whatu Ora and Te Aka Whai Ora.
Uppermost in our minds will be to ensure the ongoing provision of high quality, responsive palliative care services in the Hutt Valley.
