    Ten years ago, the Division of Continuing and Global Ed- ucation opened a passport facility to assist Fresno State students and community members obtain a passport, adopting the name, “The Passport Place at Fresno State.” The Passport Place became an essential part of the Fresno community, one of only three passport acceptance facilities in Fresno/Clovis serving the greater Fresno metropolitan area -- the other two being the downtown Fresno Post Of- fice and the Fresno County Clerk’s office. The Fresno State facility is one of the largest in the country and serves as the primary hub for the U.S. Department of State in Central California, processing over 10,000 new applications annu- ally and providing a wide range of related passport services as well.
Fresno State’s Passport Place receives $35 for each new passport application processed. This “execution fee” is the same at every passport acceptance facility in the United
States. But what makes Fresno State’s acceptance facility special is how that execution fee is used to support student travel.AtFresnoState,eachstudentwishingtostudyabroad receives financial assistance funded by the Passport Place.
Since its opening, Continuing and Global Education has raised $1.2 million in passport execution fees to assist Fres- no State students participate in study abroad programs.
The Division of Continuing and Global Education has other funding available for study abroad students, including sup- port from community members who have setup endowed funds to ensure a lifetime of support for study abroad participants.
