1. Read the following passage.
What do you talk about when you first meet someone from other
countries? First, I’ll greet the other person and ask him about the trip. Then I
might make some comments on the weather or ask him about his visit : For
example, where he is staying, how long he is staying. Then I might ask some
questions about where he is from or what his interests are. I’ll try to stay
away from religion or politics. I might talk about current news events. In
general, when I am the host I feel responsible for keeping the conversation
going and feel uncomfortable if there are long periods of silence.
