SILCHESTER ROAD WEST, THE ROYAL BOROUGH KENSINGTON & CHELSEA, LONDON,UK
The main route through the site is the existing Bram- ley Road running north-south. We intend to enhance this main route making it the High Street of the neighbourhood. Silchester Road runs east-west crossing Bramley Road and currently terminates as a cul-de-sac. We propose to ex- tend this route as a connector road that will provide a connection through the heart of the masterplan, back to Shalfleet Drive and an access route to Freston Road. New circulation network provides a series of well-connect- ed streets and garden squares integrated into the sur- rounding area.
Our masterplan will encourage maximum connectivi- ty with the surrounding areas making it accessible, legible and easy to understand.
Public spaces are knitted together by a network of pe- destrian routes, both primary and secondary. These pro- vide pedestrian priority across the site and deliver pleas- ant and safe routes. Such re also vehicles for greening the urban landscape. Ultimately, public spaces (the public realm) give identity to a place, making it a legible and connected whole. The public realm acts as the natural breathing space of the neighbourhood. It provides a safe and supervised environment for the community's public ac- tivities, e.g. meeting and strolling places, children's play ar- eas, picnic area, leisure activities, etc.
