The exterior of the Tabor Grand received a great deal of attention during the historic renovation. Being exposed to some of the harshest weather conditions imaginable takes a toll on a building. Throughout its 130 year history, the hotel received many short term and incomplete renovations. That was not the case with the 2014 renovation, long term preservation and integrity of the building were first and foremost with every decision the development team encountered as well as making sure that 100% of the building was addressed.
THE ROOF
The roof of the Tabor Grand was studied diligently. Taking into consideration current problems and strengths, a new design was constructed that addresses ice and water flow as well as long-term durability. The design that the team selected was certified for a 50- year warranty that will ensure the integrity of the structure for generations of Leadville citizens.
THE BRICK
The entire structure was completely stripped of four coats of paint. Teams then worked to repair mortar and tuck pointing issues across the entire facade of the building. Once completed, the building was primed and repainted with two coats of specially blended paint from Sherwin-Williams called Emerald. This paint includes a “sunscreen” additive that will help resist fading and maintain the colors long-term while protecting the brick.
