California to an Adventure Scott McMillan, Age 61
The person I would like to honor is Scott McMillan he was born in San Francisco, California on October 27th, 1955. He left California and came to live in Washington for a 1-year adventure but ended up staying for 30 years. When he was a kid his childhood was nothing like our current generations. There was no television just a radio and a couple of stations. Dinner was a very big thing back then for him and his family. They would sit at the table and listen to the radio station Hi-Fi. Kids were everywhere in his neighborhood, every family had at least 2 kids. Every neighborhood had it’s own basketball and baseball teams for both boys and girls, Scott played lots of sports every day when he was a kid. While he was growing up he wanted to be a Professional Golfer or a Doctor. His biggest hero growing up was his father, his father fought in World War II and overall a good loving man. He would always play sports with Scott and Scott’s brother Doug.
Today Scott is 61 years old and works at Boeing as an Engineer. His goal is to retire soon from his job. On a daily basis he misses his family and his brother, and in the world, he witnesses people who have self-absorption with Social Media. A piece of advice that he would give to the current generation is “Let things come to you, don’t expect instantaneous gratification.” -Scott McMillan. A piece of advice he still goes by today is “ Don’t mess with the law or the IRS, can’t beat either one.” Scott’s father gave him that advice when he was 10 years old and he still carries it with him today. If he could change the World in one way he would end all world hunger because there is lots of depression because of it and it is an ignored problem. Being a gentleman and a good person is a very important thing to Scott.
I want to honor Scott because he is a very helpful man to anyone and everyone. He always puts others before himself and is a very happy man. He is willing to help anyone with a small task to a big task. He always wants everyone to be happy. He is very strong in what he believes in and doesn’t let anyone change that. He takes his time in what he does and puts thought into it. He cares for lots of people and animals. Thank you, Scott, for appreciating everything in life and putting others before yourself.
