Giver Willard Cox Jr.
I am honoring Willard Cox Jr, I always look up to him as a role model on how to put others first, and be open hearted to everyone. Willard Cox Jr. is a very thoughtful, kind, and funny man. He was born in Glen Rock, Pennsylvania in 1945. As a child he lived in a house with no running water and an outhouse. He is now 71 years old and living in Bermuda Dunes, California. The name Willard came from Jesse Willard, a heavy boxer fighter and after Frances Elizabeth Willard the president of Woman's Christian Temperance Union (WCTU). His father's name was Willard and it was passed to himself and then to his son.
In his childhood, Willard Cox Jr. had two role models... his mother and his father. He looked up to them because they worked very hard and they sacrificed so many things for their kids. He wanted to be like them and make other people happy.
When he was a little bit older, he decided what he wanted to do after selling ice cream as a job and then went to service for Vietnam and then ended up finding his career path of agriculture. He loved working with the farmers and watching crops grow and that's when he decided what he was going to do. One of the experiences that impacted his life most was his time in military and he learned how to be independant and how to get away from home.
As an adult he realizes the most meaningful advice he has received is to see the glass as half full and not as half empty. But he has a quote that he also loves it is by Theodore Roosevelt called “dare greatly” he likes it because it sums up what life is, and not to be afraid of a mistake. His piece of advice to our generation is that “life is about the journey and not about the destination”. He wishes he knew when he was younger that 90% of the things you worry about doesn't happen. “don't sweat the small stuff”-Willard Cox Jr.
In the Present Willard Cox Jr. is living and enjoying a healthy life in Bermuda Dunes, California. On a daily basis he hears people complain about what is going on in the world and wants to see more people being thankful for what they have, and to live life to the fullest. He realizes how lucky he is to be where he is in life.
