“Everyday I hear the bad things happening on the TV.” This world is becoming corrupt and my great grandma has seen it all from WWII to now with the gang shooting and terrorist attacks. The person I am interviewing is my great grandma her name is Juanita Dawn Jungquist but we call her More Grandma. She lives in Mount Vernon and is 81 years old, born August 20, 1935. The middle name Dawn has been passed down 6 generations and is still getting passed down through the family.
When Juanita was a girl she lived with her dad on Sunset Beach, during this time it was a WWII base for the US army. There were fox holes that the army had dug and Juanita and her brother would go out and play in them, they would dig tunnels from one to another and they would make shelves in the walls and put candles so they could see. The army ships and tanks were always there and during the night the had to turn off the lights and shut the blinds and her dad was the one who checked everyone was following the rules. When she was a kid she always wanted to go to beauty school. She then graduated high school and went to beauty school in Mount Vernon and lived her dream, then moved to Seattle to work at a salon there. Later she had to quit her job and work picking things in the field because her husband was having heart problems. She had 3 kids and was a proud mother. A story she will always remember is the apple tree in front of her house and the apples were just starting to sprout, there were only two though. They had a little girl neighbor and one day they realized there was a apple missing. They went over to our neighbors house and talked to the neighbor and told her not to pick the last apple. The next day she went out there and saw the apple still on the tree... but it was only the pit. That is one of my grandma's favorite memories.
Nowadays, Juanita is living with Kim who is her daughter. She watches the news and goes on walks. Her granddaughter Amy goes and spends her lunch break with her and talks with her. She sees all of the bad things happening in the news and around her all of the deaths If she could do one thing it would to create world peace, she hates seeing the terrorist attacks and gang shootings. This world needs to get better. She is also trying to stay as healthy as she can to live a healthy life.
I love my grandma and she is the most loving person I know. She has always been extremely nice to me and everyone else. I am so thankful for her and everything she did for me. I can't wait to see her next time.
