Spread Some High Fives!

The Greater San Antonio Builders Association (GSABA) launched a new strategic campaign
for membership recruitment and retention earlier this year. I am proud to announce that we are
beginning to see the results from the campaign and the hard work and time from our Membership
Co-Chairs and Committee members. In March, we kicked off our new Membership Ambassador
Program and had an exceptional turnout for this event at Paesano’s Restaurant.

If you are looking for a great way to get involved, then the Membership Committee led by Co-
Chairs Mike Sowry, Third Vice President, Secretary for GSABA and Karen Neighbors with Factory
Builders Stores might be the perfect fit for you. To become a Membership Ambassador, you must
Jeff Buell pledge five (5) hours each month to the membership campaign.
                    President
Members of the Committee met on Tuesday, March 26th and made 67 personal calls to new
members sharing information on the Association’s Health Insurance plan through One Digital and invited our new members to the
Membership Mixer at Keith Zars Pools that was held on April 11th. The personal outreach made all the difference, and we had several new
members attend the mixer at Keith Zars Pools. Thank You Keith Zars Pools and their team members for hosting a dynamite event.
If you have not had the opportunity to attend a New Member Orientation, I want to personally invite you to our upcoming orientation
now called the President’s Reception on Tuesday, May 7th from 10:30 am to 11:30 am just prior to the education class on Risk Management
with Don Shelton. The Orientation and the Don Shelton calls will be held at the Association in the Ray Ellison Ballroom.
Membership is the lifeblood of our Association. We currently have 881 member companies and we represent over 10,000 people in our
22-county jurisdiction. We invite you to get involved with the different committees and councils which will be discussed at 10:30 am on
Tuesday, May 7th. We will share several of the benefits of your membership to include the Association’s Health Insurance plan, along with
             your TAB and NAHB benefits.
Haley King, GSABA’s new Director of Membership and Education can help you get involved in membership. Haley joined GSABA in March
and is doing an exceptional job. If you are interested in joining the membership team or are interested in getting involved, give Haley a call
             at 210-696-3800.
Please join us for the May Membership Mixer that will be held on Thursday, May 16th at Expressions Home Gallery located at 9901
Broadway in Suite 104 from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm. This is a great way to network with Builders, Remodelers, Associate members, Vendors
             and Suppliers.
Don’t miss the StrucSure ProAm Golf Tournament that will be held on Monday, May 13th at The Club at Sonterra. This fun event includes
a golf pro with each team of three. There is additional information on the tournament led by Scott Whisenant and Grant Dodson in this
             issue of Builder Brief.
Speaking of the Don Shelton class earlier in the column, I wanted to share that I had the opportunity to meet Don at the Texas Association of
Builders (TAB) Board meetings in March. When I spoke with Don, he shared that lawsuits filed against Builders, Remodelers and Developers
are on the rise. Texas does not have a loser-pay statute, meaning that if someone brings a lawsuit against you and loses, they do not have to
pay your legal fees. This is one of the reasons that lawsuits continue to be on the rise.

Join us for Don’s presentation on Tuesday, May 7th to find out how you can minimize your risk, transfer a portion of your liability to your
third-party warranty company and if your insurance coverage is adequate. If you are a Builder, Remodeler, Vendor, Company Owner,
in charge of Construction or Risk Management for your Company, you will not want to miss this one-hour presentation. Lunch will be
served and the cost to attend is $15.00. Thank you to our lunch partner Goodman Manufacturing and our Presenting Partners Hotchkiss
Insurance and StrucSure Home Warranty for sponsoring this class.
