An Update on our Government
Affairs and Education Efforts
The leadership team at the Greater San Antonio Builders Association
(GSABA) has been very active on the local, state and national levels the past
several months. We have active members on our City Teams, and we have
met with City Officials and the staff on a regular basis in San Antonio and the
surrounding cities. One of our goals is to strengthen our relationships and
address any issues that affect our members.
I want to share information this month on the new Builder registration program called Contractor Connect that has been adopted
by the City of San Antonio. Builders, Remodelers, Contractors and Vendors who are required to pull permits by the City must register in
advance with the Development Services Department. This program went into effect in May and information on Contractor Connect is
shown on page 8.
The Development Services Department (DSD) is hosting trainings on the 4th Tuesday of each month from 8:30am to 9:30am
in Training Room B at the City offices located at 1901 S. Alamo.
Tuesday, June 25th • Tuesday, July 23rd • Tuesday, August 27th
The Government Affairs Leadership Committee Team met with the Development Services Department (DSD) team members at GSABA
on Tuesday, May 21st to discuss the new registration program and education requirements. The next meeting with the DSD team will
be held on Wednesday, July 17th in the Camp Room at the City offices located at 1901 S. Alamo. We invite you to join us for this important
meeting. We are grateful for our strong partnership with the City of San Antonio and DSD and the opportunity we have to work with them
on critical issues that affect our members.
GSABA will be offering several classes in the Fall that qualify for the education requirements. Mark your calendar for Wednesday,
September 18th from 9:00am to 1:00pm for a half day class in the GSABA Ballroom presented by Gord Cooke, one of the most-respected
building science educators in North America. Gord has over 25 years of experience in the field of energy efficient residential building and a
unique talent for applying his technical expertise in building science, HVAC systems, and indoor air quality to current building issues.
This class will feature building science-based technologies, techniques and solutions that will help your company build and sell a higher
performance home. Gord will cover the use of continuous insulation, the benefits in air-sealing, and common practices that make cost
savings opportunities. I want to thank Cody Wilson and the team at Owens Corning for sponsoring this class. The cost of the four-hour
class is $25 per member and includes lunch, materials and will be followed by a live AeroBarrier sealing demonstration.
In addition, we will kick off a Construction Series as well as a Sales Series Education Program in the Fall and we welcome your input on
topics or special needs that you and your company may have. We will have more information on the classes that will be offered in the July
issue of the Builder Brief.
In closing, I want to invite you to get involved in the Government Affairs Committee. We recently met with the City of Cibolo and we have
future meetings planned with the City of Seguin and Schertz. Please call Kristi Sutterfield, our Executive VP and Director of Government
Affairs for additional information.
Sincerely,
