The 86 Legislative Session will Kick Off in Austin on January 8, 2019

As most of you know, the Texas Legislature meets every other year. One of your Association’s number one
priorities is advocacy and we must join together to make sure that lawmakers understand our critical issues.
Our State Association, the Texas Association of Builders (TAB), Political Action Committee HOMEPAC, had a
very successful 2018 election cycle with 91% of supported candidate winning their respective races. This is
invaluable for the housing industry as we look to the future.
Your leadership team is already reaching out to elected officials in our 19-county jurisdiction. We have
chartered a bus to travel to Austin on Wednesday, March 20th at 8:00am and we will return to the Association
no later than 8:00pm the same day. There is strength in numbers, join us as we make our voices heard. There
are several housing issues that we must champion and many bad bills we must challenge and work to defeat.
Your involvement is critical. Lawmakers want to hear from their constituents!
Here is a brief overview of key dates in the 86th Legislative Session:

Executive Vice President Bill filing began on November 12, 2018.
The first day of the session is January 8, 2019.
The last day of the session is May 27, 2019.
The deadline for Governor Abbott to sign bills into law or veto them is June 16, 2019.
The effective date for the finally passed bills (unless otherwise dated) is August 29, 2019.
