R v Vye and Others
[1993] 3 All ER 241
Principle:
Where a defendant of good character (i.e no previous
convictions) had testified or made a pre-trial
statement, a direction relevant to his credibility should
be given.
Where a defendant of good character has or has not
testified or made a pre-trial statement, a direction
relevant to his propensity to commit the offence
charged should be given.
Such directions should be given, even where the
defendant of good character and jointly charged with
another of bad character.
