The catspaw is a secure hitch which is used to fasten a sling
to a hook or bar so that it can be lifted safely. The knot is
formed by twisting two loops and slipping them over the
end of the bar or hook.
This knot is thought to have been invented by the
ancient Greeks and has enjoyed a revival in recent years as
it is popular with lure and fly fishermen who use it to attach other useFul Knots
a line to a swivel. It can be used with a wide variety of lines
or ropes of almost any size.

Make some more twists, making
sure that each loop has the same
number of twists, but in opposite
directions. Check that both the
original loops are even in size.

Pass the two loops over the end
of the rail.

Tighten the knot by pulling on
both standing ends.
